How to Get a Wired Home Network With Ethernet Fiber Optic Cable?

When moving to a new house, most people would likely to choose Wi-Fi to get the network as laying cable in the house is too complicated and makes room messy. But the wired network is faster and securer for internet access, file sharing, media streaming, online gaming and other things. So comparatively, the wired network is better than the wireless. Then how to wire your house with Ethernet cable? Check the following steps.

Step 1. Make a Full Plan
Before laying cable, your need to ask yourself several questions.
First, which room do you want to wire, in the living room, the bedroom, or kitchen? This may decide how long the Ethernet cable you need to buy.
Second, how many ports do you want in each location? As the wall plates in the market usually come into 1, 2, 4, and 6-jack configurations.
Third, what network speed you need? This question is to guide you to choose the switch and Ethernet cable.
Forth, what path should the cable take? This is the most difficult question but also important. If your house is single floor with basement, then you can choose the basement as the path. If your house is multistory, you can select to go outside. Anyway, attics, basements, air ducts, and crawl spaces are good options. Step 2. Buy Materials and Tools

Step 3. Install the Wall Plates
Look at your sketch and find where to install the wall plates. First, line up and measure the size of the wall plate. Then draw the outlines on the wall to prepare for cutting the hole which is the most difficult during this process. And use a stud finder prior to make sure that you don’t hit a stud. Next step is to cut the hole. In this step, just leave the wall plates off.

Step 4. Run the Cable
Before running your cable, make a measurement to see the cable length for each run. You can measure from floor plans, run one, etc. If you run one cable to each room from the distribution room, gently pull it out and make other cable run like it. Then clear the path in the walls and drill holes. Once you have drilled the holes you can string out the cable and ensure no extra cable is tucked in the wall. After that, you can label cables on both ends and measure the exact cable length. Remember to leave spare cables for stripping and crimping.

Step 5. Connect the Cable to Jacks
Now you need to wire the active optical cable. Strip about one inch of the outer jacket off the cable and push the wires into the keystone jack to match the color code marked on it (T568A or T568B standards). Punch down the active optical cable to keystone jacks (or patch panel) with a punch down tool. After you have all the cables connected, you can click the jacks into the wall plates. At last, fix the wall plate on the wall with supplied screws.

Step 6. Test the Network
Once all cables are wired, test the network with network cable tester. If LEDs on the tester light up, it means the Ethernet plug is connected correctly. On the contrary, Ethernet plug is not connected right and you should check the Ethernet plug. After everything is prepared well, you can connect the network.

Why The Data Center Needs Active Optical Cables ?

40G AOC have began to import the data centre in the whole world. Compared with 40G DAC copper cable,40G AOC owns an incomparable advantage in more than 7 meters data transmission environment, including lighter ,prone to bending, easier to manage, longer distance signal transmission, etc. The full-duplex component structure is as below:

The Variance analysis of the 40G AOC and the SR4 module by Infiberone are as below:

1)  Insertion loss analysis:  For the current process and design, the repeatability and interchangeability performance of the SR4 optical module’s interface is inferior to the 40G AOC under the same transmission distance. For the SR4 optical module, it is common that the different optical fiber patch cords plugging in the same module will have the different insertion loss and return loss. But the related metrics such as the testing eye pattern will have no significant changes so long as the variation in and conformed to the scope .A nice AOC can basically keep stable in this aspect and have better swing performance. The repeatability testing result of AOC are as below,it shows a great volatility.

2)  four quadrant test: It means that testing under the four combinations of input voltage and signal amplitude and guaranteed to keep product’s performance between the lowest and highest voltage and temperature.AOC need to ensure it’s MPO interface and optical cable won’t be melted at high temperature by four quadrant test of wide temperature range. The low and high performance change of Infiberone's MPO interface can satisfy the variation within 0.3dB,and the PEI material it used can have temperature resistant for at least 120℃.As a product of integration in shape .Integrated test ensure the product’s performance, it may more be prudent than the MPO jumper which is used the indeterminacy performance ‘s SR4 module. Compared with SR4 which ensure it’s quality by light eye pattern.AOC judge the index by electric eye pattern.

3)DDM monitoring:SR4 have DDM monitoring function can ensure it’s optimal coupling by the ADC value of real-time monitoring receiver when receive coupling. So SR4 will be better than AOC in receiving sensitivity. But the SR4 light module and 40G AOC have not yet reached the function of real-time power monitoring.

4)Transmission distance: there are no significant differences between both of them on OM3 optical fiber. But SR4 optical module can control the performance better. Supposed to use SR4 if necessary to implement the long transmission distance(>300m).

Summary: Proposed to use active optical cable (AOC) if based on inner data center’s data connection.  Because better consistency and repeatability of this AOC’s wiring and both sides sealed make them easier to avoid the influence of the environment &vibration &swing.
